We are a leading full service metal framing, commercial drywall and acoustical ceiling contractor serving the Metropolitan Washington DC, Baltimore and Pennsylvania area while maintaining our reputation for excellence in client satisfaction and craftsmanship for almost a century.

Our Story

In the beginning

1929
Originally founded by Jennings H. Mitchell Sr. and Norman E. Moxley. The company specialized in the art of plain and ornamental plaster and stucco finishes.

Company Diversified

1934-1992
In 1934, Mr. Mitchell assumed sole ownership of the company and continued to establish its reputation for high quality craftsmanship in exterior and interior finishes until his sudden unexpected death in 1954. At the age of 24, his oldest son, Jennings H. Mitchell, Jr., replaced his father as president and incorporated the business. During his tenure the company diversified into other construction related fields such as drywall, acoustical ceilings, steel studs, insulation, fireproofing, structural framing and exterior finishes.

Sixty-Three Years Later

1992-2013
In 1992, after 38 years at the helm, Jennings H. Mitchell Jr. retired and his younger brother, Bion Mitchell, became president. Bion remained president until 2013. During Bion’s time as president rough and finished carpentry was added to the company’s resume. In 2013, after 21 years as president, Bion assumed the position of CEO and his son, Jason Bion Mitchell, became president. Jason is only the third generation to lead the company.

Thriving

2013-2020
Today the company continues to thrive, maintaining its reputation for craftmanship and leadership in the competitive field of commercial construction. The company was awarded the Governor Citation from the State of Maryland for craftmanship. The Building Congress and Exchange of Baltimore, The Building Congress and Exchange of Washington and The Associated Builders and Contractors have also recognized and honored Jennings H. Mitchell and Son, Inc. numerous times.

The Future

2020 & Beyond
New construction and renovations require experience and the latest technology in tools and equipment. We have the experience and we provide whatever is needed to deliver quality work on schedule. We approach the restoration of old and historic buildings in the same manner. These projects require fine craftmanship and attention to detail to recreate their distinctive beauty. Our employees take pride in their work and skills. This dedication to excellence has sustained us as a leader in our field for so many years. Our company will continue to strive as an industry leader for quality construction. We will strive to deliver to our contractors and owners a project that they will be pleased with and on time. Our proud heritage motivates us all. Jason and all the employees at Jennings H. Mitchell and Son Incorporated are looking forward to our 100th anniversary in 2029.
